Top 10 - Best Albums Of 2015

Well it’s that time of year again when people start compiling lists of their favourite things…so here’s my offering. I’ve never really been much of an album person…I have singles from this year pouring out of my ears but albums are a different story…there are not many full albums from start to finish that I can truly say that I really like…but I’ll leave that list for another day. This year though…a few bands have caught me by suprise…so here it is…if you have not heard any of them…as always…give them a listen…you might find a gem.

# 10 ~ Contradictions – Paul Smith & The Intimations
# 9 ~ Land – Novella
# 8 ~ Love is Cool – Wolf Alice
# 7 ~ Born In The Echoes – The Chemical Brothers
# 6 ~ Not Real – Stealing Sheep
# 5 ~ Born Under Saturn – Django Django
# 4 ~ Magic Whip – Blur
# 3 ~ Modern Nature – The Charlatans
# 2 ~ Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit - Courtney Barnett

# 1 ~ Highest Point in Cliff Town – Hooton Tennis Club

Anticipated Albums for 2016

Hinds (fka The Deers) – Leave Me Alone (Jan)…Spanish upstarts The Hinds built up a nice little following with songs like Bamboo and Chili Town as The Deers…but due to legal action they had to change their name. It’s too easy to label them as a female Black Lips…I think they could be so much more…with this album…hopefully they’ll prove it.

FEWS are a little known Swedish band with an American lead singer that have so far travelled under the musical radar. If their single ‘Zoo’ is anything to go by this could be a big year indeed.

Theo Verney – He must be on the verge of releasing an album in 2016… and if it is anything like his Brain Disease EP then it will be well worth the wait.

Could 2016 be the return of the American Rock bands?…with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Red Hot Chilli’s all releasing new material.

I’m hoping for a few more bands from the early 90s to reform and hit the road again. Ride are a must for me to see in 2016…plus rumours abound that Lush are already in rehearsing for next year…bands like The Charlatans, Shed Seven and Inspiral Carpets going from strength to strength then The Stone Roses on the verge of a return…next year could be one amazing year.
